ANONYMOUS WOMAN//

MARGARET

This mixed media artwork is a portrait of a woman photographer from the 1940s. I worked with acrylic paint to portray the woman I've named Margaret. I consciously reference color preferences of the time period as well.

This work is a means to honor her and speak to the irony of being documented by a photographer but not worthy enough of documenting her name.

I worked with traditionally decorative or “female” materials as another means to celebrate the women in this series but Margaret is the sole painting that has no gold leaf or embroidery. Sometimes, paint is enough.
